IN THE COMMUNITY

Our group is proud to support a variety of local organizations that make a positive impact here in Bar Harbor.  These organizations include Mount Desert Island HospitalHusson UniversityJesup Memorial Library, The Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association, Acadia Youth Sports, The Criterion Theater, and The Neighborhood House/No Excuses Youth Basketball Program.  We are also happy to volunteer our time serving on a variety of nonprofit boards and Town of Bar Harbor committees.

SUPPORTING OUR ECOSYSTEM

We work with Ashur Enterprise, a local contractor from right here on Mount Desert Island, to carry out our landscaping and gardening in a way that is both beautiful and beneficial to the environment.  Ashur Enterprise is committed to organic gardening and applies no toxic pesticides or herbicides, promoting a healthy environment for all.  Plants are selected not only for their appearance but also in order to support pollinators by creating native ecosystems conducive to our area. These practices provide habitats for important birds and insects and help provide food and refuge for a wide range of critters.  Additionally, prioritizing native plants reduces resource consumption by allowing our gardens to be more reliant on natural weather patterns for their watering needs.  We also seek to maximize our potential carbon capture through our choices of plants as well as our maintenance practices, and we utilize compost in order to create our own sustainable fertilizers to apply to our soils.  This helps us care for our lawns in a way that optimizes root development, which in turn minimizes water usage and allows growth without harmful chemicals.
